Olympic Gumf Ratio™

Channel 7’s coverage of the Olympics is pathetic.

Instead of using their extra digital channels to empower viewers to choose what they want to watch, 7 insists on broadcasting the same, er, broadcast on all of their channels.

To make matters worse, the ratio of actual live sport to ads to gumf* is something like:

1 : 2 : 4

* Gumf = Time wasting opining, interviews, discussions and patriotic drivel.

In fact, I shall call this ratio the “Olympic Gumf Ratio”.™

SBS, on the other hand, are doing a respectable job of covering the various events that 7 rejected.  SBS’ Olympic Gumf Ratio is something like 4:1:1, a truly fantastic effort.

Some would go as far to call it an olympian effort.

No soup* for you!

* By ’soup’ I mean ‘immediate access’.

Earlier today I ordered a subscription to a software development resource, and the online form claimed:

If you are ordering a new subscription and pay by credit card, you will get immediate access to your online benefits.

Much to my annoyance, however, this is not the case and it appears that they need time to process and complete the order.  Bah!

West Cape Howe Rosé 2007

We enjoyed this rosé recently with – wait for it – fish and chips.

It perfectly complemented the food (as any choice of wine should), and we were pleasantly surprised by our gamble to try a light, chilled red with fish, going against the old conventional wisdom.

James Bond would not be impressed.
